General Meeting Minutes
May 20, 2002
Prepared by Janice J. Artandi, FRNCA Secretary
A General Membership Meeting of the Flanders, Northampton and Riverside Community Association (FRNCA) was held on May 20, 2002, at the Flanders Nutrition Center.

In the absence of an elected board of directors, members of the interim Administrative Committee including David Brewer, Michael Brewer and Mary Anne Corwin conducted the meeting. Constance Burrows, Lonaway Muldrow, Tom Weber and Ron Zaleski aslo assisted. In lieu of an officially elected president, David Brewer presided, and in lieu of an elected secretary, Janice Artandi recorded the minutes.

Since approximately 56 people were in attendance, a quorum was declared and David Brewer called the meeting to order at about 7:20 p.m. No minutes were approved since there were none formally recorded at the previous meeting.

The first order of business was the election of officers for 2002-2003. Nominating Committee Chair Lonaway Muldrow announced the slate and took additional nominations from the floor.

While votes were being tallied, David Brewer addressed the meeting about the proposed Riverhead School Budget, which he urged association members to vote down. As part of this discussion, Carl Iacone, vice president of the Bay View Pines Civic Association, reported on the success of a recent rally of local residents who picketed Senator LaValle's office in Selden.

Mary Anne Corwin reported on the recent Riverhead School Board Budget Hearing, which she, David Brewer, and several other members of the association attended. A show of hands at the budget meeting affirmed that the residents of the Township of Southampton represented a substantial portion of the audience.

The school board reversed an earlier decision and passed a resolution backing the equalization rate that would give temporary relief to Southampton taxpayers, as long as it did not have an adverse impact on Brookhaven or Riverhead residents.

Mike Brewer also addressed the members regarding the increase of the Riverhead School Budget from $65 M to $71 M.

Allen Perkowski addressed the members regarding the need for Riverhead to reassess their taxpayers.
