General Meeting Minutes

Call to Order, Pledge, Roll Call: The Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association General Meeting on October 25, 2004 was called to order at 7:10 PM by Michael Brewer. Executive Board Members, Michael Brewer, Lonaway Muldrow, Eugene Rausch, Janice J. Artandi, Ellen Rausch, Allen Perkowski and Patty Hopkins were present. A quorum was declared.
Old Minutes: Michael Brewer read September 2004 general meeting minutes.
Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept Septembers minutes with corrections. Lonaway Muldrow seconded. All were in favor. Previous meeting minutes are available upon request through the secretary.
Treasurer’s Report: Eugene Rausch reported that as of September 20, 2004 the balance was $17,266.38.
A report is available upon request.
Motion made by Allen Perkowski to accept the Treasurer’s report and to pay all bills. Ellen Rausch seconded. All were in favor.
Committee Reports:
Beautification is planting at the 105/Rt.24 S.W. corner. Checks were requested to purchase the plants and supplies. Walter Olsen from Olsen’s Tree farm is donating one (1) blue spruce tree for the S.W. corner. The Fall Bulb Fundraiser profit was $355.00.
Code Enforcement reported the building were the Taxi’s worked out of was sold. More information should be coming up at a public hearing in the future.
Education reported the new Superintendent of Schools should be announced at the next Board of Education meeting.
Government report of a site plan application for a 23,174 square foot glass greenhouse and driveways and parking in the R-40 zoning district north of NYS Rt24/Flanders Road.
Membership reported as of October 25, 2004 there are 122 members including 15 business members. Welcome to new members Connie Mulvaney, Arthur Sarno and business members Chris Patti of Riverhead Trailer in Riverside and Ed Kozlowski of Edward’s Auto Care Center in the Getty Station in Riverside.
Motion made at 7:40 PM by Michael Brewer to waive normal order of business in favor of guest speaker, Senator Ken LaValle. Lonaway Muldrow seconded. All were in favor.
Senator LaValle spoke about the new State Police Barracks on Riverleigh Avenue and a program he has funded to help students steer away from gangs. The floor was opened to the general membership for a question and answer segment.
Motion made at 8:25 PM by Michael Brewer to return to normal order of business. Ellen Rausch seconded. All were in favor.
Correspondence: A letter was sent to the Flanders Fire Department requesting use of the meeting room for future Community Round Table meetings. Stating that it was on record from the Board of Commissioners, no non-firematic groups are permitted to meet in the firehouse except for the Board of Elections. Michael read an e-mail dated October 12 inviting our members to the new State Troopers Barracks Open House on October 19th at 11 AM. Michael Hirsch, General Manager of the Long Island Ducks, was making arrangements to have mascot, Quaker Jack, come to the Big Duck Lighting.
Old Business: Northampton Community Association, Bay View Pines Civic Association, FRNCA, and Janice Flood made donations of $25.00 each for the winners of the Big Duck Essay Contest. Dave Brewer suggested meeting at the Best Western Budget Inn for future Community Round Table meetings.
The Christmas Party committee reported on places and prices. Ellen said sweatshirt in red were not available. We will stick with the green color, but also have sweatshirts that zipper up the front. Executive Board members, Michael, Patty, Ellen & Eugene approved up to $100.00 to spend in Agway for the Rt.24/105 corner plantings. The remaining board members were unable to reach at the time.
New Business: Flanders Little League window stickers are available at $2.00 each. A suggestion was made to ask the Town to purchase the Peconic Health and Racquet Club for the Parks and Recreation Department. There is a meeting regarding Parks and Recreation on November 9th in Hampton Bays. This meeting is open to the general public. A discussion followed by several members on garbage issues throughout the three Hamlets. The general concern was what can be done to clean up and prevent more messes. Town of Southampton Supervisor Patrick “Skip” Heaney is invited to our November meeting. The possible Zone Changes will be the major discussion. Chris Sheldon suggested making a list of questions to give to Supervisor Heaney to address.
Raffle/Adjournment: The 50/50 raffle winner of $53.50 was Allen Perkowski. Allen donated the winnings to the Flanders Little League along with $20.00 from Michael Brewer.
