General Meeting Minutes
for May 23, 2005

Call to Order, Pledge, Roll Call: The Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association General Meeting for May 23, 2005 was called to order at 7:10PM by Michael Brewer. Executive Board Members Michael Brewer, Glen Cerrato, Eugene Rausch, Barbara Swislosky, Ellen Rausch, Laura Smith, Patty Hopkins were present. A quorum was declared.
Old Minutes: The minutes from April 25, 2005 were read.
Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept the minutes with corrections. Ellen Rausch seconded. All were in favor.
Treasurer’s Report: Eugene Rausch reported that the balance on April 30, 2005 was $17,437.74. Rose Nigro asked what the balance was for beautification funds. Eugene reported that the balance was $1,919.88.
Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept this report. Glen Cerrato seconded. All were in favor.
Motion made by Michael Brewer to pay all bills. Ellen Rausch seconded. All were in favor.
Motion made by Michael Brewer to waive normal order of business in favor of our guest speaker, Dede Gotthelf regarding the River Catwalk Project in Riverside.
A Town Hall Meeting regarding a study on the River Catwalk project will be on Tuesday, June 28, 2005 at 7 PM at Southampton Town Hall. Dede explained that 19% of the space is buildable while 81% would stay open. Dede opened the floor to questions asked. She asked for the support of the organization at the June 28 hearing at Town Hall.
Motion made by Michael Brewer to return to the normal order of business. Glen Cerrato seconded. All were in favor.

Committee Reports:
Ø No reports at this time for audit, nominating, publicity and special projects.
Ø Beautification: Rose Nigro reported that the committee was planting on Saturday, May 28. Rose asked for mulch and to get the trees staked. Rose said she needs $250.00 for labor and mulch and another check to purchase Preen, Weed & Feed, and for flowering annuals.
Motion made by Michael Brewer to give two checks to Rose for mulch, labor, Preen and annuals. Ellen Rausch seconded. All were in favor.
The Sign for the Riverside corner will cost about $2500.00. Michael Brewer suggested to write to the Town of Southampton to secure the funds for the sign.
Michael reported that New York State will repair the damaged fence on the 105/24 corner.
Ø Code Enforcement: Barbara Swislosky said to bring your concerns to her attention.
Ø Education: Ellen Rausch reported that the RCSD budget passed 1994 to 1483. Berezny, Gassert and Stark received the highest number of votes for board of education positions. The State audit of the school worked out OK and that there wasn’t any major problems. Superintendent Doyle was working on new High School projects.
Ø Government: Glen Cerrato reported that the planning board meeting was May 19, 2005. More information to be followed up by Carl & Fran Iacone.
Ø Membership: Janice Artandi reported 114 members at this time.
Ø Special Projects: Empire Zone legislation changed. All properties must be connected. More information needs to be gathered. Michael Brewer asked Tom Weber to keep an eye on any new developments.
Ø Ralph and Pat Borrelli will chair the August Picnic this year.
.Correspondence:
1. There is a high risk level 3 sex offender in the Riverhead area. Laura Smith will put information on our web site through the community link. Further information can be obtained from the RCS District Office.
2. Notification was received that the County Executive’s Office is preparing the 2006 budget.
3. The Coalition sent postcards announcing the rally for Saturday, May 21, 2005 at the East Quogue Elementary School.
4. An invitation from The Group for the Southfork for their 2005 Environment Benefit on Friday, May 27, 2005 was received.
5. An invitiation for Saturday by the Bay on June 11, 2005 to benefit the United Way was received. The cost is $50.00 per person.
6. Letter received from Judy McCleery, Southampton Town Recycling Coorinator thanking our organization for its participation in the Great East End Clean-up on April 23 and 24, 2005.
7. Zurich insurance policy paid $751.00 up to date.
