General Meeting Minutes

for November 28, 2005

Call to Order, Pledge, Roll Call:  The Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association General Meeting for November 28 was called to order at

7:10 PM by Michael Brewer.  Executive Board Members Michael Brewer, Glen Cerrato, Laura Smith, Ellen Rausch, Barbara Swislosky and Patty Hopkins were present.  Eugene Rausch was absent.  A quorum was declared.

Old Minutes:  The minutes from October were read.

            Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept the minutes with corrections.  Glen Cerrato seconded.              All were in favor.

Treasurer’s Report:  The total account balance as of October 31, 2005, was $16,966.28.

A bill received from Mark Krackie for work performed on the Route 24/County Rd 105 corner project needed to be paid.  Additional funds to come out of beautification fund balance.  Michael Brewer explained the different fund balances in the treasurer report.

            Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept the report and pay all bills. Ellen Rausch seconded.              All were in favor.

 

Committee Reports:  Arrangements need to be made for the yearly Audit.  ~Beautification Committee will meet on Saturday at 10 AM at the Route 24/County Road 105 corner to put up holiday decorations. Pat Borrelli donated two (2) boxes of outdoor lights for the trees.   ~Code Enforcement chairperson, Barbara Swislosky gave us an update on several street light repairs, and some property owners have been fined for violations.  The problem of shopping carts being left around town is still a problem.  For any concerns you may have, you can contact Barbara Swislosky to look into it or you can call Cheryl Kraft directly at the Town of Southampton.  ~Education chair, Ellen Rausch reported that the RCSD was establishing an emergency early warning system to contact the parents of students when necessary.  There are some interviews coming up for Superintendent for Business to replace Interm Superintendent Singleton.  The Board of Ed will meet one week from tomorrow.  There wasn’t any information at this time regarding the teacher’s contract.  ~Glen Cerrato, Government chair reported there were two (2) local issues he was getting more information on.  ~Michael Brewer, reporting for Special Projects, stated the grant for the PAPA playground was sent to the Regional Director in Albany.  Our incorporation papers need to be amended due to certain wording errors.  Caroline Fahey needed more information regarding future street banners for our hamlets.

 

Correspondence: 

  1. A Resolution from the Town of Southampton was received allowing for $6,500.00 for two (2) signs for the Riverside Hamlet.  One sign will be placed in the NW corner of Route 24/County Road 105 and the 2nd sign on County Road 94.
  2. County Legislator Jay Schneiderman secured $3500.00 in the 2006 Budget for FRNCA.
  3. PAPA invited FRNCA to the phase II playground dedication.
  4. Flanders Little League announced registration for the 2006 coming season.  They also were holding a fundraiser through the Modell’s Sporting Goods Store.  Ray Normoyle had discount tickets to pass out.
  5. An invitation was received to Steve Levy’s Holiday Ball for $500.00 per ticket.
  6. Notice was received that the Annual Filing to the Attorney General’s Office was incomplete and stated what was still needed to correct the report.
  7. The Suffolk County Compliance Unit needs to discuss paperwork for grants and disclosure forms with FRNCA.

 

Old Business

1.      Riverside Blight Study:  Three meetings have been held since March 2005.  The next meeting was to be held on December 14 in Hampton Bays.

2.      Beautification Committee requested up to $200.00 for Holiday Decorations.

            Motion made by Michael Brewer to allocate up to $200.00 to the Beautification                          Committee for Holiday Decorations.  Glen Cerrato seconded.  All were in favor.

3.      Fundraiser to sell candles was in progress.

4.      Holiday Party tickets were on sale.  $17.00 for members and $24.00 for non-members.  Party to be held at Wildwood Bowl on December 13 from 7 – 11 PM.  For the future, two tickets will be sent to all members with a menu ahead of time.

 

New Business: 

  1. Calendar dates need to be set up for 2006.
  2. Southampton Town Civic Coalition is requesting land preservation campaign.  More information is needed before we make any commitment.  Next Coalition meeting is on December 12, 2005.
  3. The “Giving Tree” at Phillips Avenue School will be sponsored by PAPA—not the teachers who used to help before they started contract negotiations.  Triple C Cleaning Service donated $250.00.  This donation will help pay for gloves, hats, socks, coats, etc. for needy families in our hamlets.  Currently there are 540 students in Phillips Avenue School.  Does FRNCA wish to donate $500.00?

                        Motion made by Michael Brewer to donate $500.00 to PAPA for their holiday “Giving                                     Tree”.  Glen Cerrato seconded.  All were in favor.

  1. A few people from the NW Alliance recently met with Supervisor Skip Heaney regarding the use of Community Preservation Funds (CPF).  The committee for the Iron Point “Regional” Park will be the same committee for the Big Duck “Passive” Park.  The Supervisor agreed to follow up on a Zip Code for our area with Congressman Tim Bishop.  The follow up should be as an emergency service response due to duplication of same street names in the current 11901 zip code area.

 

Announcements: 

§         The Big Duck Lighting will be Wednesday, November 30 at 7 PM.

§         A Holiday Hayride Christmas Caroling at MacLeods will be December 17 from 6 – 8 PM.  All are invited.  Refreshments to follow in the club house.

§         MacLeods will hold a Craft Fair/Flea Market on December 2 and 3 from 10 – 3 PM.

 

Raffle:  Ralph Borrelli won the 50/50 raffle for $29.00.
