General Meeting Minutes 

 March 28 2005

Call to Order, Pledge, Roll Call:  The Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association General Meeting for March 28, 2005 was called to order at 7:10PM by Michael Brewer.  Executive Board Members, Michael Brewer, Lonaway Muldrow, Eugene Rausch, Patty Hopkins, Allen Perkowski, Janice J. Artandi and Ellen Rausch.  A quorum was declared.

 

Old Minutes:  The February 2005 Minutes were read.

            Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept the minutes with corrections and confirm with Glen Cerrato his exact words.  Lonaway Muldrow seconded.  All were in favor. 

                       

Treasurer’s Report:  The balance as of 2/28/2005 was $10,990.28.

 

Michael Brewer requested $200.00 to be paid for an Ad that was placed in the local newspapers by a coalition of Community Associations west of the canal.

            Motion made by Allen Perkowski to accept this request and to pay all bills.  Ellen Rausch seconded.  All were in favor.

           

Guest speakers, Irene Pearson and Ruth Bennett spoke to the Association regarding New York State budget cut backs in health care.  They said certain Medicaid programs will all be cut or eliminated in this plan.  Information regarding this was made available and post cards could be turned over to Lonaway Muldrow.

 

Committee Reports:   

Ø      Due to the fact that Rose Nigro, chairperson of Beautification was unable to attend this meeting because of family health matters, Stanley Normoyle presented a drawing of a possible future sign for the 24/105 corner for Riverside. He said the cost is approximately $2500.00. 

Ø      Ellen Rausch stated that Phillips Avenue School will be getting a new Principal.  The audit is ongoing in the Riverhead School District.  The new budget will probably go up 8.9%. 

Ø      Janice J. Artandi reported 135 in Membership.  82 have renewed as of this date.

Ø      Allen Perkowski, chairperson of nominating committee, reported there are three (3) vacancies.  He asked those present to please step up.  A Vice-President and two (2) General Members are needed.

 

Correspondence:  

 

Ø      Jay Schneiderman’s office secured the availability of $3500.00 for FRNCA in a letter dated November 2004.

Ø      The $1200.00 that was received from the Town of Southampton for playground equipment at Phillips Avenue School was presented at the last Riverhead School Board Meeting.

Ø      A Thank You letter was received by Phillips Avenue School Principal, Charles Venecia.

Ø      $5500.00 was received as a matching grant from the Town of Southampton for the North West corner of Rt.24/Co.Rd.105.

Ø      A copy of the Ad that was put into the Southampton Press was presented.

 

 

Ø      To order new T-shirts and Sweatshirts, we need a minimum order of 24 each.  The question asked was do we want to order enough shirts to get the order in?  No one present at that meeting objected.

 

Old Business:

 

            Michael Brewer and Allen Perkowski went over the by-law changes with the general membership and opened the floor for comments.  Dave Fox suggested the President can make appointments with a 2/3 approval of the board. 

            Motion made by Allen Perkowski to accept changes made in the by-laws.  Lonaway Muldrow seconded.  26 members were signed in.  24 yeas, 0 nays.  All were in favor.

 

Michael Brewer presented his Spring Raffle to benefit FRNCA’s special events.  Only 200 tickets will be sold with the drawing on April 25, 2005.

 

The Great East End Cleanup is Saturday, April 23, 2005.  A sign up sheet is available.

 

Casino Night at Wildwood Bowl was announced.  Further information to follow.    

 

New Business

 

Cottage and Multi family housing was presented by Michael Brewer.  New land use and “Special Exceptions” were discussed.  Al Algeri and Lydia from the East Quogue Civic Association spoke about this new zoning.  No perpetuity was included with this “new” affordable housing.  Vicky Farrugia stated that the sewage created by the multi family dwellings could pollute our water shed. 

 

Michael Brewer thanked our guests, and all those who made it to the Town Hall meeting on March 22, 2005.

 

Adjournment:  No 50/50 raffle was conducted.

  

            Motion made by Michael Brewer to adjourn.  Lonaway Muldrow seconded.  All were in favor.
