General Meeting Minutes

for September 26, 2005

Call to Order, Pledge, Roll Call:  The Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association General Meeting for September 26, 2005 was called to order at 7:00 PM by Michael Brewer.  Executive Board Members Michael Brewer, Ellen Rausch, Glen Cerrato, Eugene Rausch, Laura Smith, and Patty Hopkins were present.  Barbara Swislosky was absent.  A quorum was declared.

Old Minutes:  The minutes from July 25, 2005 were read.

            Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept the minutes with corrections.  Glen Cerrato seconded.  All were in favor. 

Treasurer’s Report:  The account balance as of August 31, 2005, is $15,952.33.

            Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept the report and pay all bills.  Laura Smith seconded.  All were in favor.

 

Announcements made by Michael Brewer

§         A new streetlight on Point Road and County Road 63 was approved by Southampton Town.

§         $15,000.00 initiated by Senator Ken Lavalle through the Governor’s office by the NYS Office of Parks and Recreation and Historic Preservation for playground improvement is pending the return of a contract.

§         The River Cat Walk Project has been approved by the Town.

§         LI--40 zoning change is in the public hearing stage.

§         Northwest Alliance group will meet with Supervisor Patrick “Skip” Heaney to discuss local issues.

§         A charities registration number has been filed.

§         We are waiting for an estimate for street pole banners.

 

Motion made by Michael Brewer to waive normal order of business in favor of  our guest speakers.  Ellen Rausch seconded.  All were in favor.

 

Incumbent Jay Schneiderman and Tim Motz are running for Suffolk County Legislator and

Incumbent William Masterson and Alex Gregor are running for Town of Southampton Highway Superintendent.

 

Each candidate had three (3) minutes to introduce themselves and another three (3) minutes to answer each question that was prepared ahead of time.  As time allowed, questions were fielded from the general floor.  Allen Perkowski keep time for the candidates.

 

Motion made by Michael Brewer to return to our normal order of business.  Glen Cerrato seconded.  All were in favor.

 

 

 

Committee Reports:

§         Beautification:  Rose Nigro contacted the Suffolk County Department of Public Works to confirm that the permit we have covers all four corners of Rt 24/CoRd105.  Rose brought a rendering of what the NW corner sign for Riverside may look like. 

           

      More members are encouraged to become committee members on Beautification.  Rose requested a budget to hire helpers to mow the grass on the corners during the growing season.  The committee needs to keep the corners to a low maintenance.  Proposals for landscaping prices from local landscapers in the Northampton area will be investigated.  Funds are being requested for Holiday Decorations.  Stanley Normoyle is looking into getting the Flag Poles from the old NYS Troopers Barracks for FRNCA.  A big Thank You to Ralph Borrelli Electric for all the work done to the Rt 24/CoRd105 south corner.  FRNCA Beautification Project Signs are being looked into.  Patty Hopkins asked if there was any interest from the members in conducting another flower bulb fundraiser.  There was no interest at this time.

 

§         Publicity/Membership:  FRNCA Letterhead Flyers were mailed out to current members and different addresses in the community announcing this meeting and the meeting for next month.  The Flyer listed all our business members also.

 

More Announcements:

 

§         Carl Iacone invited the FRNCA members and guests to attend a Bay View Pines Civic Association Meeting on Friday, October 7, 2005 at 7 PM.  This meeting will host those persons running for Southampton Town Trustee.

 

Raffle:  Barbara Downs won the 50/50 raffle for $80.00.
