General Meeting Minutes

Call to Order, Pledge, Roll Call:  The Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association General Meeting for April 25, 2005 was called to order at 7:10PM by Michael Brewer.  Executive Board Members, Michael Brewer, Lonaway Muldrow, Allen Perkowski, Janice J. Artandi and Patty Hopkins were present.  A quorum was declared.

 

Old Minutes:  The minutes from March 28, 2005 were read by Michael Brewer.

            Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept the minutes.  Lonaway Muldrow seconded.  All were in favor. 

                       

Treasurer’s Report:  Michael Brewer reported that the balance as of March 31, 2005 was $17,328.39.  The report was the balance only, not the detail.

            Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept this report.  Lonaway Murdrow seconded.  All were in favor.

           

Motion made by Michael Brewer to waive the normal order of business in favor of our guest speakers who are running for the Riverhead Central School Board of Education.  Lonaway Muldrow seconded.  All were in favor.

 

Sal Mastropaolo, Nancy Gassert and Kathy Berezny were each given five (5) minutes to speak about themselves and why they were seeking or re-seeking a Board of Education position.  Questions from the general membership followed each speaker.  There are three (3) seats available.  The top three (3) vote getters will get the positions. 

 

Motion made by Michael Brewer to return to the normal order of business.  Lonaway Muldrow seconded.  All were in favor.

 

Allen Perkowski, Nominating Committee Chair, presented the slate for new officers.  Michael Brewer for President, Eugene Rausch for Treasurer, Patty Hopkins for Secretary, Ellen Rausch for General Board Member, Barbara Swislosky for General Board Member. 

            Motion made by Allen Perkowski to accept Slate of Officers.  Janice Artandi seconded.  All were in favor.

The floor was opened for nominations to be added to the slate.  A Vice President and another General Board Member were needed.  Laura Smith accepted General Board Member slot and Glen Cerrato accepted Vice President slot.

            Motion made by Allen Perkowski to accept nominations of Laura Smith for General Board Member and Glen Cerrato for Vice President and a letter of acceptance from Ellen Rausch for General Board Member and Eugene Raush for Treasurer.

25 Members in attendance.  A quorum was declared.  Ballots were passed out, filled in and collected.

 

Committee Reports:    

Ø      No reports at this time for audit, membership, nominating, publicity, special projects.

Ø      Stan Normoyle stated that the flower bulbs planted in the fall were grown and everything looked good.  The Suffolk Water Authority is supposed to hook up to the ‘water vault’.  Blue flags were placed as markers for this.

Ø      The RCSD budget vote is scheduled for May 17th with a 5.671 tax increase.

Ø      A new design for the Suffolk Federal Credit Union building was being worked out.  A Planning Board meeting was set for April 7, 2005.  Michael Brewer attended.

Ø      Publicity chair requires some funds to help update the web site.

Correspondence:  

 

Ø      A letter regarding a sex offender in the area was received.

Ø      Phillips Avenue Parents Association will hold a Mother’s Day plant sale on May 5.

Ø      John White from the Town of Southampton Community Housing Director and Councilperson Linda Cabot will be at the David Crohan Community Center on April 27, 2005 at 7:30 PM for questions and answers.

Ø      The children at Phillips Avenue School sent several Big Thank Yous for the $1200.00 grant that was donated to the playground fund.

 

Old Business:

Ø      Town of Southampton Meeting regarding The Cottage & Multi Family Housing Legislation is for Tuesday night, April 26 at 7 PM at Town Hall. 

Ø      A Forum will be held in May regarding this Legislation at the East Quogue Elementary School.  Car pools and a bus will be available to help people to attend.  A sign up sheet was available.  The Coalition of Civic Associations put this forum together.

 

New Business:

Ø      Clearing of land has started at the old Big Duck site.

Ø      Thank you for help at the Great East End Cleanup.

Ø      Flanders Little League opening day is April 30, 2005.

Ø      The Riverside Blight Study Committee participated in an area ride along.  Chris Sheldon explained the areas during the ride.  All comments will be put together by the AdHoc committee.  Both sides of Old Quogue Road, Vail, Pine, etc., were included.  Code Enforcement Rules were mailed out to some town residents.  Not everyone in our town received them.  Chrissy Prete said pictures were also taken.  A question was asked who are the consultants who are doing this blight study.

 

 Raffle:  The 50/50 raffle drawing for $45.00 was won by Bubby Brown.

The following are the winners from Michael’s raffle:

            1st place            Ellen Rausch received $900.00

            2nd place           Fred Favia - $200.00

            3rd place            Chris Sheldon - $50.00

            Five 4th place winners were:  Darlene Brewer, Betty Densenski, Annie Bell, Carl Marino and Elaine Downs.  All received $10.00.  $700.00 will be donated to FRNCA by Michael Brewer.
