General Meeting Minutes

For May 22, 2006

Call to Order, Pledge, Roll Call:  The Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association Meeting for May 22nd was called to order at 7:10 PM by Michael Brewer.  Executive Board Members Michael Brewer, Michael Sacco, Laura Smith, Barbara Swislosky, Ellen Rausch and Doris Schneider were present.  A quorum was declared.

Old Minutes:  The minutes from April 24, 2006 were read

                Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept the minutes without corrections. Michael Sacco seconded.  All were in favor.  At your request, copies of all previous minutes can be made available through the Secretary.

Treasurer’s Report:  Report waived as Eugene Rausch was absent.

Michael Brewer reported a balance of $23,428.00.

Guest Speaker:  Frank Lipp of the Southampton Town Assessors Office spoke for approximately one hour, taking questions from the floor.  The recent increase in property assessments was discussed and Mr. Lipp explained how the new assessments may or may not increase property taxes.  There were many questions from residents.

Correspondence

Michael Brewer read the letter from Dee Dee Gotthelf.

Letters were sent to CVS, Stop & Shop and Trader Joes to solicit new business in Riverside.

 Announcements

 Jessica Cybulski, winner of the scholarship, was presented with a check for $1000.00.

Great East End Cleanup took place on April 22, 2006.

Michael Sacco attended Opening Day of the Flanders Little League, representing FRNCA.

Web page set up on the FRNCA website to use for communication with the North West Alliance.

 Committee Reports

 Laura Smith announced that there are four new members and one renewal.

 Old Business:  There was a large turnout at the May 11, 2006 Planning Board meeting at the Southampton Town Hall with petitions handed in to the Board protesting the granting of Special Exception Uses.

 A follow up letter was distributed to be signed individually, and to be sent in by June 10, 2006.  Michael Brewer will deliver the letters directly to the Town Hall.

 A check was written to Wedel Signs for $2500.00 for two new signs at the intersection of Route 24 and County Road 105 -  “Welcome to Riverside.”

 Michael Brewer received an estimate for a well for the northwest corner of Route 24 and County Road 105, it will cost approximately $2200.00.

 The raffle tickets are in.  They are $1.00 each or $5.00 for a book of six.  There will be two raffles, one at the annual picnic in August (date to be announced) and one at the holiday party.  Each member will receive twelve tickets.

 

New Business: The Riverhead School budget was defeated on May 16, 2006.  Tim Griffing and Angela DeVito were elected to the School Board.  The next budget vote will be at the end of June.  The next school board meeting will take place on June 6, 2006.

Riverside Blight Study – There will be a public meeting in June, the date will be announced.  This is a very important meeting that everyone should try to attend.

Raffle:  Peter Cybulski was the 50/50 winner of the raffle.

 Adjournment:  Motion made by Michael Brewer to adjourn.  Michael Sacco seconded.  All were in favor.  Meeting adjourned at 9:10 PM.
