General Meeting Minutes

For October 23, 2006

Call to Order, Pledge, Roll Call:  The Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association Meeting for October 23, 2006 was called to order at 7:05 p.m. by Michael Brewer.  Executive Board members Michael Brewer, Michael Sacco, Doris Schneider, Laura Smith, Ellen Rausch and Eugene Rausch were present.  A quorum was declared.

Old Minutes:  The minutes from September 25, 2006 were read and a motion was made by Michael Brewer to accept the minutes with corrections, seconded by Michael Sacco.

Motion made by Michael Brewer to waive normal business, seconded by Ellen Rausch, all in favor 

Kevin McDonald of Nature Conservancy handed out literature concerning Proposition No. 3, which will be on the ballot November 7th, Election Day.  He did urge us to vote yes as it concerns the Community Preservation  Fund.

Guest Speakers:  Treewolf West, who is  the Democratic Candidate running for the State Assembly.

Mr. West spoke about many issues facing us including lowering property taxes, the School Districts need for more State funding, health insurance available to everyone, traffic problems on County Road                   39, high utility rates, housing problems, and fielded many questions from the floor.

Mr. Fred Thiele (Republican incumbent) was also invited to speak, but did not attend the meeting.

Ed Deyermond, sole assessor for Southampton Town spoke and answered many questions from the floor.  Some of the topics were the tax exempt properties in our area, which will be on the tax roles at the end of 2006 and fully for the year 2007.  The Riverhead School district receiving approximately $1.3 million additional, which will be available at the end of this year.  Also discussed the problem of multi-occupied residences of unrelated people causing a problem in our area. 

Motion made by Michael Brewer at 8:45 p.m. to return to normal business, seconded by Doris Schneider.

Treasurers Report:  Eugene Rausch reported a balance of $19,092.13.  Michael Brewer made a motion to pay all outstanding bills, seconded by Ellen Rausch.

Correspondence:

Michael Brewer announced  that we received the second permit for our Riverside sign from Suffolk County Dept. of Public Works

Announcements:

Tim Bishop will speak at the next NWA meeting on November 2, 2006 concerning our zip code.

Location, size and material for boat house was discussed for the Iron Point Park.  Materials suggested by East End Rowing were metal or T-111.  The committee will suggest that they use clapboard 

Southampton Civic Coalition Meeting is scheduled for November 1, 2006.

Wildwood Lake Committee Meeting will take place on October 30, 2006.

Permit for the Riverside Sign was received, and both signs were installed on October 13, 2006.

Meet the Candidates in Hampton Bays on October 26, 2006 at the New Hampton Bays Facility on Ponquogue Avenue at 7 p.m.

The Big Duck Committee meeting took place on 9-28-06, and the next meeting  is rescheduled for November 30, 2006.

Committee Reports:

Audit:  Eugene Rausch will look into the matter of the audit.

Beautification:  See Mike Brewer after the meeting.

Membership:

Laura Smith is working actively on our Membership Drive and the up coming raffle at our holiday party.

We will be advertising with signs, which will cost approximately $1000.00, and also plan on doing a local mailing instead of a house to house visit.

Our goal is to double FRNCA membership and keep residents informed of what’s happening in our Town.

Education:

Ellen Rausch announced that it is very important to attend all the Riverhead School Board Meetings so that we know what is happening in our District.

Old Business:

Material for FRNCA banner was discussed.  After discussion, it was determined we should look into felt material to be used with other Association banners.

New Business:

Laura Smith continuing to take care of the raffle tickets.

Holiday Party:  Ralph Borelli will look into having the party at the bowling alley.

Tentative date is Tuesday, December 12, 2006

Annual Christmas Caroling:  Chris Sheldon will take care of scheduling, tentative for Saturday night,

12-16-06 at 6 p.m.

Chris Sheldon asked if anyone had or knew of any aerial photos of our area.

River Catwalk Project - Letter to be sent to Town regarding an update and support for this project to get underway before we lose the developer.

LI 40 – Letter to be sent to Town questioning the time frame, because of our concern for losing Five Towns College. 

 

Raffle:  Laura Smith won the 50/50 raffle, which was $44.50.
