General Meeting Minutes

For March 27, 2006

Call to Order, Pledge, Roll Call:  The Flanders, Riverside and Northampton Community Association Meeting for March 27th was called to order at 7:10 PM by Michael Brewer.  Executive Board Members Michael Brewer, Glen Cerrato, Eugene Rausch, Laura Smith, Barbara Swislosky, Ellen Rausch and Patty Hopkins were present.  A quorum was declared.

 

Old Minutes:  The minutes from February 2006 were read.

 

            Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept the minutes with corrections.  Ellen Rausch seconded.  All were in favor.  At your request, copies of all previous minutes can be made available through the Secretary.

 

Treasurer’s Report:  Eugene Rausch reported a balance of $15,442.41 on February 28, 2006.

 

            Motion made by Michael Brewer to accept the report.  Glen Cerrato seconded.  All were in favor.

 

Correspondence: 

  1. The FRNCA Incorporation papers that needed correction have been returned and are in order.
  2. JC Holding Company, who owns the old troopers barracks where the old flagpoles are, was sent a letter from FRNCA requesting the flagpoles, but nothing has been heard from them.
  3. NYS Legislator, Fred Thiele and Treewolf West were invited to the October FRNCA meeting.
  4. A check in the amount of $6500.00 was received from a Grant through the Town of Southampton for signs in the Riverside hamlet.

 

Announcements:

       The Northwest Alliance suggested that town violations be sent to Southampton Town Councilman Chris Nuzzi for his follow up.

       Community Preservation Fund (CPF) ‘s collected between 1999~2004 was $455,439.00.

       FRNCA’s 1st Scholarship Program is underway.

       Barta Reality has been doing some illegal clearing of property.  No permit was visible.  The Town was notified by Michael Brewer.

       The Town of Southampton Animal Shelter is in need of volunteer animal walkers.

       A Spring Flower Bulb Fundraiser started.

       The Town of Southampton Great East End Clean-up is slated for Saturday, April 22, 2006.  The Organizational meeting will be held a few days before the clean up date.

       Applications are available to “Adopt a Road”.  See Barbara Swislosky for further details.

       The Group for the South Fork is sponsoring a Comedy Show on Saturday, May 6 at 8 PM.  Call 288-1500 for further information.

       The Southampton Civic Coalition supports a moratorium on development in East Quogue.

       The Suffolk County Department of Probation had a presentation on March 9th at Phillips Avenue School on gang activity in our area.

 

 

 

 

Committee Reports:

Ø      Barbara Swislosky is following up on some code violations through Chris Nuzzi and Steve Kiley.

Ø      RCS budget hearings are on going according to Ellen Rausch.  Michael asked if a school board member could come to one of our meetings.

Ø      The Southampton Town Planning Board has several variances going on in our hamlets.  This board must have a watch dog on it. 

Ø      Michael Brewer read a resolution from the Town of Southampton regarding a partnership between the Town and the RCSD East End Rowing Club.  A piece of Town property near the Flanders Mens Club will be used as a launching site. 

Ø      The Riverside Water District is now serviced by the Suffolk County Water Authority. 

Ø      Laura Smith announced nominations are open for all positions on the Executive Board.

Ø      The FRNCA website now has a link added to it for the Northwest Alliance which meets the 3rd Monday of every other month.

 

            Motion made by Michael Brewer to have a page set up on the FRNCA website to use as a communication devise through which email can be received and sent for the NW Alliance.  Ellen Rausch seconded.  All were in favor.

 

Old Business

Ø      Iron Point Park – Michael Brewer brought in a map of the plans that the Riverside Blight Committee sent in to the Town.  This plan is a ten (10) year plan.

 

New Business: 

Ø      FRNCA Spring Raffle….have two (2) raffles a year at 6 raffles per book for $5.00 a book earmarked for Scholarship Award and other FRNCA events.  It was discussed to send two (2) books to each member.

Ø      There was discussion about the Town running a business…. Campground, restaurant, marina, etc. at the Summers, Hot Dog and Tiana beaches.  The Southampton Civic Coalition is against any of this to happen.  Do we want Michael to represent FRNCA in this matter?  The decision was no. 

Ø      Ida Cohan mentioned that the Riverhead Free Library Budget Vote is scheduled for April 18 from 10 AM to 8 PM.  Get out and vote.

Ø      Carl Iacone said that the BVPCA meets on the 1st Friday of the month at the David Crohan Community Center at 7 PM and that Riverhead School Board Member, Chrissy Prete, would be the guest speaker.

 

Raffle:  Kathy Konkel was the 50/50 winner of $50.00.

 

Adjournment:  Motion made by Michael Brewer to adjourn.  Laura Smith seconded.  All were in favor.  Meeting adjourned at 9:05 PM..
