Red School House ~ a historic landmark located at 1261 Flanders Road, Flanders, New York, recently renovated by owner Kurt Kahofer.

History: The Flanders School was built around 1853 and the present building was rebuilt about 1886 after a fire. It was a one room school house with a coal burning stove. The dimensions of the original one room block are 20 x 37 feet which is a typical 19th century school house size. The open rectangular school yard in the back and the old pipe and post fence still exist. Children of all ages were educated here.

Students were from Flanders and Red Creek. After 1908 it was designated as District #4 School, Southampton. Around 1925 a shed roof addition was put onto the back of the building. The Flanders School had its last day of classes on June 19,1959. There were 30 first and second grade students at that time.

After the school closed, the building was renovated into a church and later into a house. The present owner has restored the main features of the old school house and uses the building as a private residence.
